the earrings were not going to be all the same, but special for each friend.

we took some time, she told me about each girl (10 in all!). we looked at some beads, talked about colors ....

took a trip to the BEAD PALACE in Greenwood ... and got to work, with the descriptions in front of me.

My nephew Sam, is celebrating First Communion Saturday April 25th ... as his God-Mother (and bead junkie) I created my first rosary. It was very educational for me, and I think it turned out very nice.

This weekend was busy ... I was able to complete an order for my sisters' sister in law. The goal was to be able to send them to St. Louis for Thanksgiving. For this order, I was given brief descriptions of the ladies that would receive the items ... and then create pieces that would be appropriate for each person. This was a fun order to work on, lots of variation.

Summer and beyond

Well is is summer and many of my plans have changed ... the beading has been put hold as I must pack up my workplace and move into a space to be shared with my husbands office (still in the house) But not an area that I can keep my work space set up as it has been for the past year. We will be shifting the use of the "BeadRoom" into the "BabyRoom". That is correct .... My Husband and I are expecting our First child January 4th, 2009. As of today we are 12 weeks ... We have just recently decided to find out the sex of the baby (we both think boy) but will not know for a few more months. The first Tri-mester went pretty smooth - lost of sleeping and just a little bit of nausea. The worst of which came once school got out ( I do love summer break!) Volleyball is going well, we are in our 4th week of summer workouts and have the IHSAA moratorium the first week of July. My Husband and I may take off - but not 100% yet - we may use the time to clear out the bead room. Then we will have 3 more weeks of summer volleyball, including Team Camp at Purdue University (we will take 27 players) IHSAA official fall start date Aug 4th, school starts Aug 11 ... the fall will be busy, the State Finals are the frist weekend in November - then I can really plan for the baby! Hope summer is great for you all .... Grace and Peace!

My stint as a painter at church has come to a conclusion. The staff will go a different direction for the next 7 weeks of the series, probably changing in three weeks for the final design. What a great experience! I had no idea that I could paint murals. So what will happen to the faux wall ... it is going to move to Brookside Community Church. ( my husband is the Pastor for that church) Not exactly sure those details - but the mural will still be seen. I have also ordered 8" x10" prints of my images that will go on display at the Faculty Show where I teach. Not as great as the real thing - but it will show what I have been up to. I have been working on my first bridal set, 1 bride, 5 bridesmaids and 1 grooms woman. The wedding is not until June 28, but the items will be posted soon. So with painting done ... off to create more jewelry! Well, until my sister asks me to create a mural in her girls new room ... the girls will be changing rooms to make room for the new baby due in September.

week 5 - reconciliation

week 5 ... you have heard that is was said, do not murder. But I tell you , do not even be angry. Pastor Poe preached this weekend on how Jesus raised the bar for all of us - we need to reconcile with friends, enemies, anyone that we are separated from. Jesus asks each of us to take the Old Testament Law and raise the expectation - lets do one better. Consider our words - words can seriously hurt a relationship. Jesus says = do it better. Settle your differences. This is the final week for the wall, sometime during the week the Faux Wall will be removed. Where will it go? My husband has requested it to be moved to Brookside, the inner city church where he is the Pastor. Why the tear down, the stage design will be revamped this week. They will have at least 2 more stage changes in this 13 week series. Additionally, the heart and the enemies was altered just a touch to become more readable ... the N was tilted and an outline was added. BOTH shifts created an easier read for the final image. I look forward to seeing how this wall will transfer to a new location, below is the 5 week completed wall. Total Hours of Paining: 40. Total Hours of planning and Prep - who knows. When isn't an artist thinking about a project! What a truly fun process - something I did not know I could do. MY sister has asked me to help plan the bedroom for her 19 mo. Twins ... that will be a blast. Grace an Peace to you!

Week 4

Week 4, Matthew 5:43-48 "You have heard that is was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy'. But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" This week ... the word enemies scrunched into the shape of a heart. One more week with this stage design then something new. Things are going well. I have even had some friends ask for tshirts with the word art:)

sorry this one is on its side :) cool, how the sun was out today, and shinning directly where I was working. One artistic change made on the spot .. the bottom of the light was going to say: you are called to be a , I chose to leave that off - Artistic License Jen (my friend) said!

Week 3 @ NVCL ... I arrived early ( well 8am, early for spring break!) The hard work happened a few weeks back with the concept for the verses Matthew 5:13-16. Specifically :You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5 14-16) WE ARE CALLED TO BE A LIGHT!

My sister commissioned me to create jewelry for her sister in law as a gift to celebrate the birth of her 3rd child. (FYI the oldest just turned 3!) The items were created with birthstone colors to symbolize each child ... 2 in March, Aquamarine and 1 in May, Emerald. If you are interested in Mothers Jewelry ... I am ready to take the orders! A few weeks back, I headed to the BEAD PALACE ( greenwood IN) I found these awesome large oval beads. They are all different, brown, red and some black. So far, I have created 2 very different necklaces using the large oval as a focal point. The drop (1st image) is 20" with a 2" drop. ( $37.45 including tax) The 2nd image, is 40", the focal point is off center, worn to the right or left. ($42.80 including tax)

Week 2 - Grace and Peace

Grace and Peace to you! This week, Pastor Poe will speak on the "Beatitudes" Blessed are those ... If you look at the images created for this week, the first 2 were completed on Tuesday, adding the GREEN. The words contour the shape of the fist, but also connect the fist and revolution. I spent about 2 hours at the church, things moved rather smooth - unless you count that I had to freehand the letters - which I had found a font I felt was great - but when I enlarged the print to use on the overhead, it was too small. I said a prayer and went to work. The letters turned as planned. I went in on Tuesday, knowing that the remainder of my week was jam packed. The week leading to spring break is typically crazy, for students and teachers. This week has been no exception. So I thought, the church mural was completed, check that off. Yes, I am a list maker and a check off chick. I like to have a feeling of accomplishment as I move through the task list. I talked to Jay, about the work ... there would be some changes in the set design ... but in short I needed to come back and change the painting. Not the new green words ... but part of the 1st week. NO problem right - except my super tight schedule for the week. Including Saturday. The wall needed to be ready by Saturday, 4:30 service. I was in a panic. The first weeks wall took me 13 hours to complete - I would maybe have 3. Jay helped me out by painting black over the area that needed to be re-done. Which was a huge help. Although I was still concerned that there was NO way I could accomplish the task in the limited amount of time Thursday and Friday. (side note ... most of my weeks are not this busy!- or maybe they are? ) Thursday, I was a stress ball. I could not wait until 3pm so I could head to the church. During my alone time, I prayed earnestly the God would increase my faith, I gave my list of tasks to him and left him in charge - whatever was completed would be done, if it was not completed it was not supposed to be done. I left it in his hands. I moved efficiently through the remainder of the day. Praise GOD! During a prep time, I listened the first of 3 podcasts from Mars Hill Church and teaching Pastor Rob Bell. The series is titled " The Best Letters Come from Prison" He is using the book of Philippians. And taught on Grace and Peace, and Pauls deep love for the people of Philippi and ALL of us. Paul wrote this letter while in prison, in chains ... and he was still spreading LOVE. What a gift this word was - Grace and Peace. Later at the church, while working I listened to the other 2 sermons, Rob Bell defins the little things about the original text, breaking down the Greek translations Grace and Peace. I did not realize that in all the letters written by Paul, he begins with Grace and Peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and Peace - just what I needed to hear. I am not at all surprised, but it is super great when you pray, and you immediately feel the arms of God wrap around you and say - yep, I am here. So I get to the church and get set up - I was moving swiftly, my friend Jen comes into help me! I had spoken with her earlier in my stressed moments - and she was able to work it out with her husband, that he could watch the kids and she could spend 2 hours with me. Jay and Matt (both NVCL pastors) came into worship hall ... with words of affirmation and praise all filling me up - Grace and Peace. Jen was a HUGE help. Mentally and Physically. We busted through the words, she laid down the base and I came through with the gradations of red-orange and yellow. We completed the task as my timer beeped - 5:30. GOD IS GOOD! The task is complete, and it looks SHARP! I made the dinner in plenty of time, to get a great table and had a NO stress dinner with the to-be seniors for next season's volleyball program. WHEEW! I look forward to spring break next week, on the docket: painting and jewelry! New jewelry posts soon ....

A New Project

I have started a new project ... a Mural at Church. Our church kicked off a series called Revolution, Easter Weekend. The series is on Matthew 5-7, AKA the sermon on the mount ... this will be a 13 week series. In conjunction with the series the Church is calling all artists to create work inspired by the scripture. I was asked by the Worship Arts Pastor (JAY) to create the artwork for the stage ... so my work will be front and center for the next 13 weeks! Scary, just a little. I started last week with the 1st installment, which I am pretty sure is the largest part. ( I guess I am the one in charge- so yes it is the largest!) This first section I worked on over a 2 day period of about 13 hours. Just image in 13 weeks, the entire 22' x 12' space will be FULL of visual images relating to the scripture Matthew 5-7. WHEW! Below you will see some of the process. God is good, he has blessed me with a student that is assisting me and a student teacher in the classroom! WOW! I look forward to posting each addition ... please pray for me .. and if you are interested in a mural of your own, in about 13 weeks I will be available, for a nominal fee. March - Lion or Lamb ...

February was a quite beading month - which is just fine when I look at the amount of time spent at school, volleyball, church , ministry and having time with my husband. Looking back I am not sure where I would have been able to make any additions in my time and each day. Unless someone has figured how to place more hours in the day.

What will March bring .... My mother has given me a commission of 3 bracelets, 1 necklace and 2 sets of earrings for her Sorority( Delta Gamma) Founders day auction - VERY COOL! A dear friend would like for me to help out with her daughters 6th birthday party, providing the custom "BLING" - do kindergarten girls know bling? They will when I am done:) At school, various freinds are making requests for bracelets, earrings, necklaces - all is well on the jewlery front. I enjoy creating requests and custom pieces for people - that is the best! Additionally, I am working with the Worship Arts Pastor at church to help develop the stage for a 13 week series on Matthew 5-7 ( the sermon on the mount). MY art will be on display for 13 weeks! ( my church: http://www.nvcl.org/ )The concept is exciting, we have the first 4 weeks planned ... but there are 9 more! In my husbands Ministry, he is Launching Jobs for Life. This program will help un-employed and underemployed congregation members.My husband is on staff with our church, as the Urban Ministries Director - and serving as the Pastor of the church as well (Brookside Community Church) I plan to be involved with this ministry as well, as the Co-Site leader working side by side with my husband. THIS WILL BE EXCITING!

My most recent pieces were custom orders - with representaions of birth months.

1st set: pearl, amethyst, aquamarine, emerald, sapphire. 2nd set: pearl, amethyst, diamond, sapphire, citrine. Both with silver spacers and silver findings.

For me, I was drawn to the juxtaposition of the round pearl with the cube color. Similar to the assymmetrical work done previously. each set: 16"-19" necklace and 7" bracelet, $53 including tax

Arts Educator Award - for me!

Friday Feb 8th, I was awarded the Kightlinger and Gray Arts Educator Award 2008. This is an annual award given to 2 Marion County Teachers each year in conjuction with Prelude Awards. *** The Kightlinger and Gray, LLP Outstanding Art Educator Award will be given to two Marion County educators for their exceptional commitment to encouraging and supporting young people in the arts. *** The Prelude Awards are honors given to High School students in the Arts. (visual, performance, music vocal/ instrumental) Students put together portfolios and make submissions in January. Each catagory selects 4 students that are in the running for various scholarships and honors. The contest is for Marion County schools, they had over 500 entries this year. North Central was well represented in each catagory. http://www.childrensmuseum.org The award I recieved was due to a nomination from a student that submitted a visual art portfolio. Although the student was not a finalist, her nomination must have been outstanding! What an absolute honor - just for doing what i love ... I am so honored and speechless - very humbling.

NCAA staff sale

This is my booth for the NCAA Staff sale, the first opportunity outside my home to sell my jewelry. Thanks to my sisters good friend, who works for the NCAA, I was able to put my stuff out there ... the number one question: " was it worth it?" My goal was to make back my initial table fee, that was done with my first sale. I had a number of custom orders and had the oportunity to work in new pieces. I love the shutters, it was different then the other displays and I was able to "take" them from my parents garage. PERFECT! The NCAA sale was 2 days, when I was packing up I was also preparing for the next sale, Saturday at my Nephews school. Along with setting up my jewelry, My sister-in-law was launching "glamour girls" ... stay tuned for more information about this exciting launch ... ( unfortunately I left my camera at school Friday the 30th, so I do not have pictures of that awesome display!) The 2nd sale was great as well ... I look forward to the custom orders.

1st Professional Show

Wednesday and Thursday November 28-29, 2007 @ the NCAA (downtown indy) 11- 1:30 and 4-5 pm both days. This is my first out of my home sale - I am currently working on building up inventory. To have cash n' carry as well as accept custom orders. I tired to sign up for 2 other bazaars, one was cancelled and the other already had 3 jewelry booths. That was tough to swallow - can we really ever have TOO much jewelry? I have faith that other opportunites will open - and great things will happen.

This has been very popular and a request for custom items ... I can alter the length of necklace, dangle of earrings ... size of silver ball.

The black bead is flat, about 3mm thick with a 4 mm silver ball and silver toggle.

This is the START of the blog .... about beading and creating/starting a business .... I am signing up for my first "craft"show and it scares the be-geezis out of me! I thought having my 1st party was hard! :) start at the start ... 1: I am a christian ... and Wife of a pastor:) 2: I am an Art Teacher - I am in my 11th year 3: I do not spell well 4: I coach volleyball - I am in my 4th year at the helm 5: I have no idea why I need to lay out ground rules!
